Freedom Hill chronicles the struggle of Princeville, NC—the first town incorporated by freed, enslaved Africans—as it battles the devastating effects of environmental racism. With a population of fewer than 2,000, this historic town is at risk of being erased by increasingly destructive floods.

As Director of Photography, my role was to bring the human and environmental story of Princeville to life through visual storytelling. I captured the quiet dignity of the town’s residents alongside the destructive power of rising waters. Through expansive drone footage, reflective interviews, and immersive shots of the land, I aimed to honor Princeville’s legacy while illustrating the urgency of its fight for survival.

This documentary premiered on PBS’s WORLD Channel on Earth Day 2024, serving as a reminder of the intersection between history, climate justice, and systemic inequality.
